PhotoClick is simple and so much fun to use - even a beginner digitizer can create stunning projects with just a click of the mouse! Watch your child grow before your eyes by creating a changeable photo gallery.

Janome Supplies Required
  • MC 11000, 10001, 9700, 9500, 350E & 300E (Embroidery only)
  • DigitizerPro/ MB V2.0G
  • ST and RE Hoop for MC11000, A and B Hoop for all other machines
  • Embroidery foot P
  • 1/4" Seam foot O
  • Buttonhole foot R
  • Ditch Stitch foot S
  • Button sew on foot T
  • Walking Foot
  • Blue tip 75/11 needles
  • Janome Cutaway Stabilizer
  • Black Embroidery thread
  • Black prewound bobbin

Fabric and Notions Required
  • 3/8 yd – Off white cotton
  • One Fat Quarter - Red Check
  • One Fat Quarter - Dotted print
  • One Fat Quarter - Alphabet print
  • 3/4 yd - Vertical stripe print
  • 1/4 yd - Black cotton for binding
  • 3/4 yd - Muslin for backing
  • 3/4 yd - Batting
  • Triangles on a Roll - 2" Finished Half Square Triangle
  • Blocks
  • An assortment of grey/ black two and four hole buttons
  • All-purpose sewing thread

Instructions:
At the computer
  1. Scan the photograph. Use a photo-imaging program to change the photo to grayscale. Use the cropping function to eliminate unnecessary background. Adjust the contrast and brightness to enhance the details. Save the picture in your favorite file folder with a new name such as "eddyblkwht".
  2. Open DigitizerPro, select the RE Hoop for the MC11000 or the B hoop for all other machines.
  3. Click Image > Insert Image. By the Files of Type drop down bar select all files. Browse to the folder you have stored the photograph. Click on the photo, a thumbnail of the selected image will appear, click Open.

  4. Click on the Object Details icon found on the bottom tool bar on the screen.
  5. A pop up window will appear with the object dimensions. Set the width for 4.5 inches. Then adjust the height to the same percentage so the picture enlarges proportionally. Click OK.

  6. Click on the bottom black corner of the Photo Click icon. Click on the Photo Click Advanced icon.
  7. Change the Grain Angle to 45. Click OK.
  8. Click the Visualizer icon. Click the Display Images icon. To turn off the photograph. If desired use the Object details to fine-tune the stitching to achieve the desired effect. The default thread colour is 202 Vermillion, if desired select the Colour Chart icon and change the thread colour to the colour of your choice.

  9. Click on File> Save. Save the design in the*.jan format in your favorite folder.
    Note: Saving in the *.jan format will save the original objects for any future changes.
  10. Click on File> Save As. Save in the *.jef format in your favorite folder.
  11. Click on Machine> Select Machine Model. Confirm that yoru machine model is selected. Click OK.
  12. Transfer the design to your Memory Craft using USB direct connect or External Media device.

Optional Freehand Cropping


After inserting and resizing the photo into the screen, click on Image> Crop Image> Freehand Shape. Using right and left clicks outline the face. Press Enter on the keyboard. DigitizerPro/ MB will eliminate all the background. Then continue with step 5.

Fabric Preparation

  • Cut one - 10" x 13" Off White cotton for picture
  • Cut one - 7 1/2" x 9" Off White cotton for picture backing
  • Cut one - 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" Red Check for centre
  • Cut one - 6" x 22" Dotted print for half square triangles
  • Cut one - 6" x 22" Alphabet print for half square triangles
  • Cut two - 3 1/2" x 14 1/2" Striped fabric with stripes going across the width for top and bottom borders
  • Cut two - 3 1/2" x 22 1/2" Striped fabric with stripes going lengthwise for side borders
  • Cut one - 7 1/2" x 9" Batting
  • Cut one - 21" x 23" Batting
  • Cut one - 23" x 25" Muslin for backing
  • Cut three - 2 1/4" x 44" Black cotton strips for binding

At the Machine

Use 1/4" seam allowance throughout.
  1. Set up the machine for Professional Style Embroidery. Insert a Blue Tip 75/11 needle. Snap on 1/4" Seam foot O. Place Black Embroidery thread in the needle and Black prewound bobbin in the bobbin holder.
  2. Select the photoclick design. If additional detail is desired press the Edit function and select the Monogram tab. Add lettering details of your choice.
  3. Place the 10" x 13" Off White cotton and 10" x 13" Cut away stabilizer in the hoop and embroider the design.
  4. When the embroidery is completed trim the stabilizer close to the stitching.
  5. Cut the embroidered cotton to 7 1/2" x 9".
  6. Set up the Memory Craft for Ordinary Sewing. Place all-purpose sewing thread in the needle and bobbin.
  7. Baste the 7 1/2" x 9" piece of batting to the back of the picture.
  8. With right sides together, sew the photo to the backing leaving an opening at one side. Turn the photo right side out. Hand-sew the opening to close and then press. Top stitch around all four sides of the picture.
  9. Attach Buttonhole foot R. Sew a buttonhole at each corner of the picture 1/2" from the sides. Set the picture aside.
  10. Place the 6" x 22" Dotted print and Alphabet print strips right sides together. Cut a strip of the Triangle On A Roll seven blocks long. Following the manufacturer’s directions sew and then cut apart the half square triangles. Press the seams toward the dotted print. Clip off the "dog ears" so that each block is perfectly square.
  11. Sew the half square triangles blocks into two strips five blocks long and two strips eight blocks long.
  12. Sew the short strips to the top and bottom of the 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" Red Check centre. Sew the long strips to the sides of the Red Check centre.
  13. Sew the top and bottom border, and then sew the side borders.
  14. Determine the best placement for the picture in the centre block. Mark the position for the buttons.
  15. Set up the machine for Professional Style Embroidery. Select the Monogram tab and using the small size program in the name of the child and birth date. Refer to our sample for a placement suggestion and embroider the name and date on the red check centre below the position the photo will be in.
  16. Sandwich the top, batting and batting together. Baste through all the layers.
  17. Set-up the Memory Craft for Ordinary Sewing.
  18. Attach the Walking foot and select a decorative quilting stitch, such as a feather stitch. Quilt on the seam lines between the centre block and the half square triangles.
  19. To create a hanging sleeve, cut a 4" x 18" strip from the leftover muslin. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and sew across each short end. Turn the strip right side out and press. On the back of the wall hanging, line up the raw edges with the top edge. Baste the sleeve in place with a scant 1/4" seam.
  20. Sew the three 2 1/4" strips together to create a continuous binding strip. Press the strip lengthwise wrong sides together.
  21. Line up the raw edges of the binding with the outside edge of the block right sides together. Sew the binding to the block, mitering the corners.
  22. Attach the "S" Ditch Stitch foot. Bring the binding to the wrong side and pain in place. Keeping the guide of the foot in the seam line sew the binding to the project using the same decorative quilting stitch as used in the step 18.
  23. Attach the "T" button sew on foot. MC11000, 10001 owners select the sewing applications function. Then select Button. All other machines select zigzag stitch and drop the feed dogs. Place the button in the position on the fabric. Manually turn the hand wheel to check the placement of the needle into the holes. You will have to adjust the stitch width to approximately 3.2 mm. Sew about 8-10 stitches press the locking button to tie off the stitch. Repeat this step to sew buttons randomly around the border and at the positions marked in the centre.
  24. Cut open the buttonholes made in the picture and attach the picture to the centre of the hanging.
  25. Hand-sew the hanging sleeve in place.
