StringsFunction and Construction• Grand pianos are not as physically restricted as vertical pianos with regards to designing the proper string length and string location.
• This results in the designer being able to create a better sounding piano.
Major PointsThrough research over many years, Yamaha has gathered a large volume of data concerning the harmonic structure of piano tone. The results of this research have been applied to the design of the piano.
• Computers precisely determine the optimum positioning of the strings and the other values for matching the strings with the soundboard.
• The pressure of the strings on the bridges for each model has been properly matched for that particular model. In addition, this pressure is strictly controlled, insuring that the string pressure will be correct for many, many years.
• The installation operation of the strings is carried out by highly trained technicians using Yamaha's in-house developed, specialized machinery. The string installation operation is therefore very uniform, with each string coiled precisely around its respective pin, and each pin properly seated in the pin block.
